Increased the shutter speed and grabbed a better shot of the water without waves. Much better.

Here’s a self portrait taken from the covering of a manhole in my neighborhood. I took my camera out today and walked around looking for interesting things to photograph. Started taking pics of the manhole covering and then noticed I could see myself in the water. I’m going to try and snap an even clearer shot. I thought the waves were kind of neat, but kind of distort the picture to the point of distraction from the subject(me)

So Lauren said post-processing is part of the “art” of photography… or something. Anyway, she said to play with contrast in Photoshop.

So I did… here you go. My roommate and my cousin in an applebee’s parking lot.

I like this picture because I think the lamp and the painting balance Lindsay, who is looking off the side and smiling after a sort of upsetting conversation.

I took this picture as Lindsay and her mom got into a discussion about her wishes to travel once again to the middle east. Kind of an awkward time to take pictures, I suppose, but I couldn’t resist the emotion and the balance between Isidro, Lindsay, and her mom as they formed a sort of triangular pattern. I also used photoshop to drop some shadow and add some contrast. It brought out the light from the lamp on the wall.

Shots in the dark, anyone?

Well, here is Zach Norton of Child Bite at the Magic Stick. I still don’t know very much about my camera but that will all change. I just wanted to see what I could do without any knowledge. This came out darker than it looked on the LCD. Ah well, that’s why I have 1gb of memory and a class this Fall.

I just wanted to post about my friend Sean. He’s been one of the most excellent people in my life and today I saw him off to New York. I will miss him terribly.

Sean: godspeed.

Berries

Berries,

I saw these berries yesterday afternoon when Lindsay stopped by my office to drop off delicious banana bread. I knew I wanted to try taking pictures of them up close. How perfect that it rained last night. I’m still a total novice with no formal knowledge, so the foreground is a bit blurry, but this is the best image in the series.

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

A little color, perhaps?

Just trying aperture again, but this time with my new favorite subject, Lindsay. I like that her eyes and the sunset sort of match.

I got my book “A Short Course on Photography” in the mail today. Great timing! The first few pages said to experiment with aperture, so I did. Here is one example of a couple photos I took of my temporary roommate, Katie.
